About the City

Founded in 1554 by Jesuit missionaries, São Paulo is the largest capital city in Brazil and the major financial center and business hub of Latin America. Besides being the most populous city in Brazil, in the Americas and in the Southern Hemisphere of the Earth, São Paulo is also considered the most influential Brazilian city on the global scenario. Furthermore, São Paulo is the center of the country's cultural scene, with strong artistic development in all its expressions – music, theater, plastic arts, among others.

SPCVB members are offered hundreds of discounts and benefits in hotels, bars, restaurants, leisure spaces, concert halls, theme parks, beauty clinics, language schools, museums, and several services such as car rental, taxi and parking lots throughout the capital city, the coast and the interior of the state of São Paulo.

One of the main Brazilian tourist destinations, São Paulo attracts visitors with different purposes: leisure, events and, especially, business. Among its natural, architectural and historical attractions, there are important monuments, parks and museums, such as:

Tourist Attractions

Opened to the public on March 1st, 1901, Estação da Luz occupies an area of 7,500 sq.m. at Jardim da Luz (Luz Garden), where the structures brought from England that resemble Big Ben and Westminster Abbey are located.

LATIN AMERICA MEMORIAL

The Latin America Memorial opened on March 18th, 1989 in the district of Barra Funda to spread Latin American manifestations of creativity and knowledge, always with the aim of combining cultural, political, economic and social relations.

SÃO PAULO MUSEUM OF ART (MASP)

Inaugurated in October 1947 by Assis Chateaubriand, the São Paulo Museum of Art (Masp) is the result of an adventure of two people, supported by a group of friends, with a groundbreaking vision ahead of their time.

SOCCER MUSEUM

The cultural capital of Latin America innovates once again and opens the only museum in the world devoted exclusively to soccer, with no relation to any specific team.

IBIRAPUERA PARK

Although the construction of Parque Ibirapuera was scheduled to be completed on January 25th, 1954, on the 400th anniversary of the city of São Paulo, it opened only on August 21st of the same year.

LIBERDADE NEIGHBORHOOD

Until the beginning of the last century, Liberdade was just a neighborhood like all the others surrounding downtown neighborhoods, but, over the years, it became the stronghold of the largest Japanese population outside Japan.

PAULISTA AVENUE

The famous Paulista Avenue has become the ultimate city icon for São Paulo residents. As one of the most emblematic tourist attractions in the capital city, its grandeur sets São Paulo apart from other cities in Brazil and in the world.

GASTRONOMY

In terms of gastronomy, São Paulo reflects its multiculturalism as it offers food options to suit every taste, from the basic "prato feito" or "PF" (a blue-plate special) to the most exquisite trends in global cuisine.
